The TDI Helitrox Diver course trains open-circuit technical divers to plan and conduct staged-decompression dives using helium-enriched breathing gas. Adding helium reduces nitrogen narcosis and can improve clarity and performance at depth.

Requirements

Before beginning the course, the student must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Hold an SDI Advanced Diver certification with the Deep specialty, a TDI Intro to Tech certification, or an accepted equivalent.
  • Hold TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver or an accepted equivalent.
  • Provide proof of at least 50 logged dives.

After certification, the diver may conduct open-circuit staged-decompression dives without direct instructor supervision, provided the dives, environment and conditions are comparable to training. The certification permits helitrox mixtures containing:

  • No less than 21% oxygen
  • No more than 35% helium
  • Appropriate nitrox or oxygen-rich decompression gases within the diver’s certificationlimits

The maximum depth is 45 metres / 150 feet.
