SSI Advanced Open Water Diver

If you already have your Open Water Diver certification, you can continue your training through specialty courses. Specialty courses focus on a specific area of diving that interests you, such as Deep Diving, although not all divers know exactly what they enjoy most. Therefore, SSI designed the Advanced Open Water Diver course, which allows you to try 5 different specialties.

During this course, you will complete 5 dives under the direct supervision of one of our instructors. Two of these dives —Deep Diving and Navigation— are mandatory. The remaining three can be freely chosen from the following list of specialty programs:

• Wreck Diving

• Boat Diving

• Enriched Air Nitrox

• Photo & Video

• Search & Recovery

• Waves, Tides & Currents

• Fish Identification

• Perfect Buoyancy

After completing the course, the new depth limits will be:

• For divers over 15 years old: 30 m

• For children 12–14 years old: 21 m

This way, you will expand your experience as a diver and be better oriented on the next steps in your training.

The Advanced Open Water Diver course is an excellent way to increase your underwater experience while receiving guidance on how to continue your training. All Adventure Dives completed can later be used to complete a full Specialty.

For example, if you have already done one deep dive in your Advanced Open Water Diver course, you will only need two more dives to complete the Deep Divingspecialty and become certified.
